Your Mindset is Your Biggest Asset to Your Career…..or Hindrance
There are a few typical mindsets that limit or deter our career growth, but oftentimes these are “myths” or stories we tell ourselves that aren’t backed in data. Let’s work through a few that may be holding you back….
- Is it realistic and feasible to find a job I will like? As of June 2020, Gallup reports that 31% of employees are engaged at work. If they can find roles where they are “involved in, enthusiastic about and committed to their work and workplace,” then you can too.
- How can I be sure I can figure out what job I’ll like before I get into it? That’s exactly the purpose of career exploration — to bridge the gap so you can do everything in your power to feel informed, ready, and confident in which role and industry would be a great fit for you. We get you there by doing research, networking (to learn), experiential learning, reflection, and iteration.
- Has career exploration worked for others? Yes! We have had dozens of clients who have made full or even slight career pivots but no matter the degree of their change, they have increased their sense of career clarity, improved their ability to feel like their career approach is an informed one, reduced their overall career stress and anxiety, and found jobs they love. - Once I uncover roles I’d like, what if I’m not capable of those roles? Don’t limit yourself before you even learn about what you might love doing. Then, we can ask ourselves what skills the path requires, what the options are for gaining those skills, and if you’d even enjoy the process of developing those skill sets. You are more capable than you think.
- How feasible is it to make a career pivot? We help clients all the time who pivot without going back to school. Between your existing transferrable skills and a clear and authentic brand/story (based on your improved sense of clarity on your direction), and potentially a small course or certification for upskilling, it is much easier to pivot than you think.
- Am I ready to commit to advancing my career path? Ask yourself how long you’ve been thinking about this, and how much longer you’re willing to go feeling the same way you do now. Ask yourself if you have at least 1 hour per week to devote and invest in yourself, your growth, and your happiness.
- Is career coaching worth the investment? Ask yourself how worth it it is to you to feel relieved, excited, and certain about your right career path. We aim to make our coaching as affordable and accessible as humanly possible. Also, our plans are monthly and thus as flexible as you need.
Just remember that the only thing that can propel us forward, or allow us to stand still, is ourselves and our mindset. It is easy to do nothing. It isn’t hard to make a change, but it does take a little bit of faith and courage. Ask yourself:
- Do you think there is room for improvement in terms of your job fulfillment?
- What do you feel will help you reach the next level?
